Scott Duff & Co.

About us

Scott Duff & Co. founded in 1977

Hugh Andrew Scott Duff, better known as Andrew Duff, founded our firm in 1977. Andrew had dreamed of living and working in the Lake District and decided to take the chance and moved into an office on King Street in Penrith.

Andrew had a very varied career, and in the early days he practiced all areas of law – in his words, “whatever came through the door”. Andrew’s mantra was to serve the client well and to keep fees reasonable and affordable.

As the years passed, Scott Duff & Co grew, and Andrew was a greatly respected mentor to many members of staff and budding solicitors along the way, including the firm’s current two Directors, Suzanne Connell and Cheryl Corson, both of whom were trained by Andrew and remained with the firm once qualified. Andrew ended his career as a highly respected expert in the field of Clinical Negligence, handling complex and extremely high value cases, always with the same care and attention to detail as he began with, and Suzanne now carries on this part of the practice, with Cheryl being Head of the Family Department.

Andrew’s vision and commitment propelled the firm to our present position within the legal profession and we are indebted to him for this.

Andrew’s passing in 2018 marked the end of an era for Scott Duff & Co but our company continues to bear his name and we continue to seek to uphold his commitment to the highest standards of client care, whilst being no-nonsense and compassionate towards our clients, which are the qualities that made Andrew so popular with his clients over the years.

We are proud to be a firm where people choose to stay, a place of opportunity, support and growth. We value precision and efficiency in our work, but never at the cost of flexibility, approachability, or humanity.

Whether you’re a client or a colleague, you’ll find us down to earth, strengths-focused and committed to making your time with us worthwhile.
